Arica is the city located in the most extreme zone of the north of Chile. Limits to the north with Perú and to the east with Bolivia. It has a population near 180.000 inhabitants. Its climate is sunny, warm and with enough wind most part of the year so it is a place adapted for the practice of any extreme sports, as for example, windsurfing, parapente, sandboarding, etc.
It is important to mention that one of the sports that has become popular in Arica is the surfing, due to its world class waves, which attract to surfers of the entire world.
Among these are; “gringo”, “the island”, “the bull”. All are of rocky reed. Please, notice that these waves, with the exception of the “island”, require an expert level on part of the surfers due to its power.
The surf is better to practice with low tide, and is constant almost all the year around, the best epoch for the practice of this sport are the months between May and September. |
